Chelsea drop points at KC Stadium
Yesterday evening the Blues failed to extend their lead at the top of the standings to four points by drawing 1-1 away at relegation-threatened Hull City. "We did our best, but it was a tough game," coach Carlo Ancelotti said after the final whistle. "Hull played a good game and it's a good result." Michael Ballack started the game, missed with a flying header in the first half and was replaced by Joe Cole with 71 minutes on the clock.

Hard-fought win away at Burnley
Thanks to an excellent bouncing header from captain John Terry seven minutes from time Chelsea secured a hard-fought but valuable 2-1 win away at newly-promoted Burnley. The result means the Blues have extended their lead to four points over Manchester United and Arsenal, who play each other tomorrow. Michael Ballack went the distance at Burnley and was twice unlucky when promising shots were blocked by defenders.

Blues back on top
Chelsea have reclaimed first place in the league following a convincing 3-0 win at home against Birmingham City. The promoted team had been doing very well of late, but Florent Malouda headed home early before Frank Lampard scored a brace for the final result. The Blues, for whom Michael Ballack went the distance, leapfrogged Arsenal and Manchester United in the standings and still have the Hull game in hand.
