World AIDS Day Message

Michael Ballack, UNAIDS International Goodwill Ambassador: "This time of year is not only the time to look back and reflect on successes, things that went well or not so well and lessons learned – it is also an opportunity to renew our commitment and embrace the future with hope: 1st December is World AIDS day.

On this World AIDS Day, we at UNAIDS are proud to announce that the numbers of new infections are going down. This is the result of the hard work and effort of so many of my fellow AIDS campaigners and health workers around the world.

Discipline and endurance pays off  - in sport and in life - and I would like to pay my tribute to all those out there who day after day make a difference in the lives of people living with HIV.

But we must remember that to reach our goal of zero new HIV infections, we must all play our part and ensure continued support and funding to HIV prevention and service programmes.

By joining my team, you too can make a difference."
